bloomin' Booth Hudson
« on: Monday 27 July 09 10:10 BST (UK) »
Hello,

My family tree has halted, because i can rarely get started on this family!!

My g.g.granfather Henry Booth Hudson born 1892 married Annie Louisa Stinchcombe, i know all about this family and how my grandmother was adopted by her aunt and her brothers were sent off to a local orphanage (so sad) when Annie died following childbirth.

However it is Henry's family (could be called Harry in some places) that icannot find. We believe he is called Booth Hudson due to some parents not getting married - whther these were his or not is still to be distinguished.

I don't believe Booth Hudson to be hyphenated as in some census's e.g 1911 Booth is classed as a middle name for Ellen born 1887 (formerly constable), Thomas born 1887 and James born 1910. These i believe to be relatives of Henry using ancestry family tree builder :)

If anyone can help me with anything at all it would be great, i can answer and give as much info as i have.

thanks!!!!

Hi again

I presume you have his mother's name from his birth certificate, which will help to locate the family on the Censuses.

Births Jun 1892

I have Annie Stinchcombe's Death certificate so have worked from that.

I guess the marriage record is my next step :) Thanks wendy.
I hadn't thought of that, was too wrapped up in online record searching!!

I have all of the reference numbers for everyone in my tree so i guess i need to manipulate which certificates offer me the most information to fill in the gaps.

Hi hanspan

Once you have find out the parents names, it should be easier to follow the line backwards.

I would buy the wedding cert, unless you can afford both certs at £7 each, and then look for a marriage of Henry's father on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

If you don't have access to the censuses, post your info on here. The census will give the mother's christian name to cross-check with the father's marriage details from your search of freebmd.

Good luck

Wendy :)

Yeah, the whole elusive "should"
To be honest i'd like to think i've been successful at locating family members, all my grandparents families it's jsu this one avenue that i'm stuck at, once into the census's i can find almost anything through the process of elimination.

The problem with Marriage certificates higher up is that we believe there to have not been a marriage, but that the wife assumed the family name... great!

My father believes his grandfather and grandmother did not marry so this coudl prove difficult.

Am i right in presuming that Henry's marriage certificate to Annie Stinchcombe would provide his parents names? Or have i got this wrong, - forgive me, but im used to working with Ancestry.co.uk and Freebmd :)

 Hi once more

Of course if Henry's father has a fairly common christian name, the place of the marriage may help.

I see Henry's birth was in the York district. Have you checked the areas covered by this?

If you don't know

Just click on the York on http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl and you'll open a window, which
you then click on the here.

If you have tabs across the top of your screen, the window will appear up there and you'll have to open it.

This will give you a list of villages etc.

The marriage cert will give the couples addresses, Occupations and maybe their age, Father's names & their occupations, or maybe 'deceased' will be in that column.

The birth cert would be your best bet then if you think the parents weren't married as you should get both of the parents names. Of course that is unless the father is not named, which has happened to me. ::) ::)
