I am researching John Stubbs, thought to have been born in Cumberland about 1779; married in 1810. Held in the Manawatu Museum (Palmerston North, New Zealand) is John Stubbs' medal for service with the British Army under the Duke of Wellington during the Spanish War 1808-1814. The medal is described as:
Obverse side - Head of Queen Victoria with "Victoria Regina 1848" around the border;
Reverse side - Queen Victoria placing a laurel wreath on the head of a kneeling man, lion crouching at her feet, around the border is "To the British Army 1793-1814";
Ribbon - Maroon grosgrain with green vertical edge stripes;
Bars - Salamanca 1812, Vittoria 1813, Toulouse 1814; and
Edge - Engraved around the edge "J. Stubbs Corpl R.Arty".
Has anyone encountered him in their research (he was married three times...)?
