hi..

i've got some info that should help and am looking for more so would be interested in what you know...

my father is Michael Reaks (b.1933)...he had one brother Frank...

my grandfather is Frank Hubert Reaks (b.1876) who lived in Calcutta and worked for the Indian State Railway...he returned to England in @1930-31

he had @9 brothers and 1 sister...who were all born in India...Gerato Ocatavius Reaks (b.1882)...Mary Angela Reaks (b.1897)...Sydney Hugh Reaks...Harold Gilbert Reaks (b 1880)...and most probably a Reginald Rupert Reaks....one of these had a son Darrell Garland Reaks who also lived in India...the rest of the brothers i'm still searching for....

the 9 boys and one girl's (my great-grandfather) father was William Maurice Reaks who married Mary E Garland in Calcutta in 1869...

there is also a record of marriage in 1875 of Alfred Reaks (probably brother of William Maurice) and Janette Wilkie who gave birth to Jeannette Elizabeth Catherine Reaks (b.1876) also in Calcutta

hope this helps...i'm interested as to who your grandfather is?

thanks

ashley

Hello ashley,

I looked at your thread Surname Reaks in Ireland and saw no reply so decided to look at your other posts. The name does not appear in Griffith's Valuation of Ireland 1848-64. There's a chance that the name Hubert may be a surname connected with your family as well as being used as a christian name. Simon Hubert did live in Co. Cork

Michael Hubert, Tullamoylin, Dolla. Tipperary
Patrick Hubert, Gortataggart, Thurles. Tipperary
Michael Hubert, Kilriffet, Dolla. Tipperary
Eliza Hubert, Claddanure East, Templenoe. Kerry
Simon Hubert, Vicarstown, Matchy. Cork
Lawerence Hubert, Donnycarney, Clonturk. Dublin

Hi
I have just joined this chat.......10 years later!!  I am researching my husbands family, his mother is the daughter of Sydney Hugh Reaks (1879-1932), born in Calcutta.  He was a Bengal Pilot up until his death in around 1932.  She did not know he had any brothers or sisters for that matter (she is now 88) and would be interested to find out who they all were and any of their descendants.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Lucy

There's a tree on Ancestry that shows 5 brothers and a sister for Sydney Reaks. One of the brothers has the middle name Octavius suggesting that he was the eighth child so there may be some more to find.
