I believe it was a house on Poplar Grove that was used by Stepping Hill Hospital.
Now shows up on google maps as one of the units.
Don't think it's ever been a police station.

I would suspect that it was the address given for Stepping Hill Hospital.  For some reason or other, hospitals were given street addresses, rather than their name - was this because hospitals were, at one time, only associated with the Workhouse?  :-X 

Withington Hospital, in 1937 and 1946 for example, was detailed as 20 Nell Lane, on a birth and death certificate.
