« on: Thursday 23 July 09 22:49 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to find when my Gt x3 grandfather came to England.

His name: Innocenzo Maspero b capiago, Lombardy, between 1790 - 1800  died Carshalton (Epsom district) Surrey 1860
Married 1827  Sarah King c1801-1833 Carshalton, Surrey.
then married 1844  Susan Daniels c1818 - 1878 b maidenhead Berks

I found his family/wills etc.. on the mayoral rolls in the local Library archives
and on the 1841 census.

Any idea's?

Helo Lei,

Just seen your message - I am a descendant of Innocenzo Maspero via the Daniels family ( my great grandfather was Richard Innocenzo Daniels, son of Richard Daniels and Mary King Maspero) I am only a beginner at this geneaology stuff but would love to know more about this side of the family.
I have various reports of the family being in business - cheeesemongers, jewellers and painting and decorating! Not sure how much is true but I believe that they were originally in Stepney?
Would love to hear from you!

Hi Lei

I am also a descendent of Innocenso Maspero, and ma currently looking for his birth certificate - do you by any chance have it?

Our branch is descended from the enigration to England when William Angelo Maspero emigrated eventually to South with his son Charles Harold Maspero.

I also have a letter from Sir Gaston Maspero, the egyptologist indicating the family was in several branches at Innocensos lifetime...

Regards
Andrew

In the 1851 census he is aged 53 - so born 1797/98 and was born in Capiage ,Italy....it is spelt Maspeno but I suspect that is a mistranslation  :)

Hi

If you put Maspero into the National Archives catalogue you get this many returns:

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_srt=3&_q=Maspero

Quite interesting as the King and Daniels names also feature.

Also the place of Carshalton.

Thanks

Darin.

Thanks Darin. We are looking to determine whether Innocenso renounced Italian citizenship when he left Italy and also a birth certificate which I doubt we will get from Natinal Archives in UK - Ive tried contacting the church where he was born already - but no response yet. The National census might be able to ascertain whether he was a British or italian citizen - but not sure how to confirm on this.

Kind Regards

Andrew

Hi

Capiago Intimiano is in the Province of Como, in the region of Lombardy.

It looks like civil registration for Como didn't start until 1806, so it looks unlikely that there is a birth registration for Innocenzo.

The Archivio di Stato di Como may be able to confirm this.

As you say, the only other option is the church records for baptisms.

The Archivio storico della Diocesi di Como may have church records. You could try contacting them:

archivio@centrorusca.it

If they don't hold them, they may tell you somewhere that does

Thanks

Darin.
