Hi Jacqueline,

Well that does confirm that the family was all still together in 1911.

I am really puzzled, think I will try and get some other help.

I dont think a surname would be entered wrongly, also the address for the Dixon family was North Road, Tow Law.

Now found out that Inkermans Inn was in North Road, sop
I supspect Inkermans Cottages are also.

We will get to bottom of this I am sure, eventually

Patrish.

Well Jacqueline,

The mystery is solved thanks not to me but another Rootchatter CaroleW.

It is the same family in 1891 , 1901 and 1911

We dont know why they have gone down as Dixon in 1901 only  but that was Williams mothers maiden name.

Marriage of William Carlisle to Frances Dixon March q. 1852 Stockton 10a - 44

1861 RG9/3748/15/37  living Dawdon

Francis Carlisle  h.m 27 Washerwoman b. Whitburn
George son 8 b Seaham
William son 5 b Seaham

also living a the same address is

Francis Dixon 65 Coal Miner b Thorney? Row Durham
Ann Dixon wife 65 b Outside? Hall, Durham

These look like  Frances Dixons parents.

As to the number of children that Dorothy had, working back through the census's

1881 ..... 1  1891 ....another 6..... 1901 ....another 5 and in 1911 another 1 making 13 in total.

You say Edward died so that leaves 12 living, so perhaps one of the elder children died before the 1911 census  :-\   she may have had 2 stillbirths but they would not be registered so cannot be found.

Patrish  :)

Wow!   Thanks sooo much ladies,

That's fantastic I really appreciate your help. I never would have been able to find that info. I'd found William's mam Francis the washerwoman, but had no idea where to start looking for his father.

A shoelace hawker? Not exactly royalty, eh? ;D

thanks again
Jacqueline

Hello Patrish,

I was just thinking, does that mean that Frances Carlise is age 27 in 1861
but her husband is 67? Thats a huge age gap, isn't it?

Or have I gotten the wrong end of the stick?

cheers
Jacqueline

No you havent got the wrong end of the stick, I have found that Wm Carlisle tonight on the 1851 census with a wife Jane, so its not your one after all.

Must admit the age gap dident dawn on me but it was quite late when I posted last night.

So I wonder where he is, might be an idea to get thier marriage certificate for his details, then we might find him.
