Clonmel Boot & Shoe Factory
« on: Wednesday 22 July 09 22:44 BST (UK) »
Hi All

Am currently starting out researching my grandparents and have found out that my Grandfather James Somers worked in the Clonmel Boot & Shoe Factory - Am just wondering if its still there or if there is anywhere that has its records of staff etc. I think he worked there in the 30's & early 1940's before moving to Leicester England to work in the Shoe engineering industry there.
My mum and most of sisters and brothers were born in Clonmel in Oliver Plunkett Street.

Any help greatly received.
Maria

The factory is closed since the 1980s but the building is still there. It's the Social Welfare office now and stands on the corner of New Quay and Wellington St.
