WILLIAM EDDEN SMITH
« on: Wednesday 22 July 09 19:35 BST (UK) »
Hi All
Can anyone help in solving yet another Smith Mystery . I have a marriage of W. E  Smith  1915 to an Emily Pratt in Lutterworth. There was a  boy born  1919/1920 Albert  Smith mothers maiden name Pratt . Albert died aged 2 at 33 Hill Top Arley which is where my Great Grandad died at about the same time  i think .There was no mention of the mother for Albert.AlsoThere were 2 infants deaths 1 an Ellen E smith born 1915 died 1915 and Beatrice  smith born 1916 died 1916  both mothers maiden name was Pratt .In 1918 i have William i think married to a Beatrice Helen or Beatrice  Ellen Drury and a son Fredrick born 1920 .William died 1932 in a Workhouse in Lutterworth i have his death certificate .
It says his widow lived in Claybrooke . William did serve for a couple of years in the Army between 1915/1918   can anyone help in finding out if  William divorced Emily or if she died  possibly before Albert died  as why else would he have been with John William Smith [my great grandad] in Arley . I am wondering what william was up to !
Any help gratefully recived

Sorry - but the dates you quote do not make any sense

A marriage in 1915 and children of that marriage born up to 1920

Yet you are then saying that William was re-married to Beatrice by 1918??

Hi carole

I know thats what i cannot understand . It just does not make sense my cousin hassent me this information saying William was Alberts father and mothers maiden name was pratt . Apparently no mention of Alberts mother at his death. I put a message before about my Great grandad dying in Arley  and some kind person put Some Smith deaths on which is how i found John my greatgrandad
not noticing Albert at same address until my cousin sent me information and i looked at Smith deaths again .  Then theres a birth for a fredrick Smith father William mother Beatrice Drury 1920 .Alberts death was  1923  so wonder if Emily Pratt died and Albert stayed with John or family and William
remarried. Who knows !!

It was usual to only put the name of the person who reported the death

I think you have confused 2 completely different families here and need to buy copies of the 1915 and the 1918 marriages.  The Beatrice Drury you mentioned only married William Smith - not William E Smith

You have Albert born in 1920 to Emily (nee Pratt) and William E Smith

The William Smith/Beatrice Drury marriage was in 1918 so there is no way it is the same William marrying twice.  How could Emily give birth to Albert in 1920 if she was dead and William was re-married to Beatrice???

William Smith is a very common name but Edden as a middle name isn't.

A copy of the Pratt/Smith marriage cert will show Williams full names and his fathers name and occupation

The Drury/Smith marriage cert will only show William but will give his fathers name and occupation
