hi jamjar and wul,its jonjam again.i have been sifting through all your information and would like to tell you how well you have done.john studholme was my grandfather and his father and mother were william and sarah. you also got the names of the rest of the family i.e his brothers and sisters.to show how green i am at this game this is where i got stuck as i was trying to find out when he got married and moved to dryfebridge or if he was somewhere else before dryfebridge.any ideas how i might do this. i intend to keep trying. once again i must thank you for all your hard work.i should explain that i am trying to work out a family tree for my family but i am discovering it is not all that easy.

Umm, jonjam are we related in some way?  ;)

Couldn't have done it without ev, as well.  ;) ;)

Could you tell me your grandmother's maiden name, please? It will help with the search of the marriage.

Here are sites I used: http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
                                    http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
                            http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

There are quite a few Studholme listed on Scotlandspeople. It is free to search, but you need to pay to view.

hello jamjar, jonjam here .my grand mother's first names were mary elizabeth but i dont know her maiden surname and i cant find a record of the marriage or when my grandfather moved to scotland.i have tried a number of sites but none will give marriage records unless i pay so i might have to try that.my problem is whether he went straight to dryfebridge or if he may have gone to cumberland first for a time.i'll keep going and if i make any headway i'll let you know.

Good new for you Jonjam

I have the marriage, confirmed by birth of their son Charles.

Marriage is the one in Kendal.  ;D

Charles was born on 5.11.1899.

I have the document from ScotlandsPeople for you.

When you can, send me a personal message with your email address and I'll send you the document. Don't post your email address here.

Off to look for a birth, not in Dumfries, to try to get you a timeframe for when the came to Scotlan.

The first two children were born in England, as stated on the 1901 census.  Mary and Annie.

A surprise was to find another birth in 1906. Elizabeth Agnes was born to John and Mary, August 31 1906.

I have this document and a copy of the 1901 census page for you. John isn't on it, as he's on the page before the rest of the family. I didn't purchase that page.
