I have photos to prove it
« on: Tuesday 21 July 09 20:50 BST (UK) »
please can anyone help me with marriage for Eliza Thompson Born 1880 Wednesbury, Staffordshire. Parents Joseph thompson and Sarah Lote.

She is shown 1881 Back house, Walsall Road wednesbury with parents. Also 1891 at 6 Cook street Wednesbury agd 11 with Parents but I cannot find her by 1901 so I assume she is married by then but I cannot find out who she is married to and when.

I have a photo of her with husband and kids so she has got to be in the area somewhere. ( sorry photo will not load )

Any help very gratefully recieved

Are there any names on the photo that would give a clue as to who she married?

If there are no names on it - how do you know it is Eliza?

In 1891 they were living in the West Brom registration district but the only Eliza Thompson marriage there pre-1901 was 1893 and Eliza was only 13yrs at that time

 Hiya,

My grandfather has written on the back " Aunt Eliza and Family" but no date. It shows a young woman with a soldier  in ww1 uniform with 4 children. I would estimate approx 7,5,3 and 1 years old -  possibly slightly older but not by much.

My grandfather's dad was Eliza's older brother. His name was William Henry thompson and my grandad born1907 was William Edward.

The last reference I have for Eliza  is RG12/ 2278 F79 P29 S167  and as I said the address is 6 Cook Street,Wednesbury

Hiya Ambertoo

There is a marriage for an Eliza Tomason on FreeBMD 1/4 1901 Wolverhampton to a John Thornton. Could it have been mistranscribed/written?

On the 1901 census (cant make out the address)

John Thornton 23 head b Bilston Blank tray maker
Eliza Thornton 22 wife b Bilston

RG13/2689 Folio 169 Page 27

Annoyingly I cant find the marriage on the W-ton Archives site or FreeREG to confirm it

Looking at the 1891 census they actually come under Darlaston All Saints parish which is next to Bilston. This would probably been the church she married at

I cant find an Eliza Tomason on the 81/91 census but there again it might have been mistranscribed or she was from out of the area

 Hello Willow,

Thanks for your help....

I checked out the lead you gave me but found that  unfortunatley there was an Eliza Thomason b Bilston 1880 Father John, Mother Harriet living at 36, Dudley Street St Lukes, Bilston  - So that must be her marriage.

Thankyou for trying anyway. I reckon the husband must have died WW1 which is why my grandfather wouldn't really remember him

Have you considered that she may have married in Worcestershire?
in 1906 there's
THOMPSON   Eliza A   MANSELL   Thomas   West Bromwich, St Peter   Sandwell Register Office   29/3/361
or 1913
THOMPSON   Eliza        FIRKIN   Edward J   West Bromwich Register Office   Sandwell Register Office   WBRO/55/1234

West Brom is not that far from Wendnesbury.
cheers
