Mary Ann Flynn born County Cork c1865
« on: Tuesday 21 July 09 16:10 BST (UK) »
Hello, this is my first post. I'm searching for information on my great grandmother who came to Middlesbrough, north east England, from County Cork around 1880. I was told that she arrived as a young girl with a brown label tied to her coat with her name and destination written on. I have traced her in England from 1881 until her death in 1899, but I have no details at all on her background, family or place of birth. I estimate her birth as being around 1865 give or take a year or two. She named her son George William(born out of marriage)  so that may be a help to me in finding family. I would be grateful for any help or advice on which records to search. Thank you.

welcome to rootschat!

Full Irish Civil Registration began in 1864 - so you might be lucky...

An index to the the Civil records can be searched on the familysearch Pilot site at : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347

Research certs can be ordered by post from the GRO using the index details : www.groireland.ie

the details required are : name, record type (e.g. birth), registration district, year , volume and page number

(year & quarter is required on more recent records)

Shane, thank you for the advice. I'll try familyseach for starters. Florrie
