Surname Ward or Ramsay
« on: Monday 20 July 09 13:33 BST (UK) »
Hi

Am trying to trace any birth records for my great grandparents, John Ward & Sarah Ramsay. Found their marriage in 1890 on Scotlands People but can't seem to locate birth records. They were married in Glasgow (Govan). Any help would be appreciated.

Does marriage certificate list her parents' names? have you found them in 1891 and 1901 census records? (birthplaces should be listed)
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

The census might help find birthplaces and give a better idea of birthdates but I asked about names of parents because I have Ramsay connections in that area.

what age were they on the marriage cert
may help narrow it down a bit
and if the parents names are on the cert
have you tried doing a parent search on IGI

Had a quick look at 1891 census and newlyweds John and Sarah Ward were living with her family then-
1891- 24 Westmoreland St.
George Ramsay 55 born Govan
Sarah Ramsay 56
Jeanetta Ramsay 21
Lilly Ramsay 17
Jame [Jane? James?] Ramsay 14
George Ramsay 10
Maggie Sinclair 6
John Ward 31 born Busby Renfrewshire
Sarah Ward 24 born Govan
Sarah Ward 3 months born Govan

1901 census- 12 Carfin St.
John Ward 42 born Busby
Sarah R. Ward 34 born Glasgow
Janetta Ward 8
Robina Ward 4
George A. Ward 2

Checking IGI it looks like George Ramsay married 16 July 1864 Govan to Sarah McDonald and had-
1. Elizabeth born 2 Oct.1856 Abbey (Paisley), Renfrewshire
2. Thomas Graham born 8 Dec.1858 Govan
3. John McDonald born 27 Apr.1861 Govan
4. Euphemia born 22 May 1864 Govan
5. Sarah born 26 Oct.1866 Govan
6. Janet born 1 Aug.1869 Govan
7. James born 25 Apr.1872 Govan
8. Lily Glen born 13 Feb.184 Govan

Thanks again, aghadowey..

That's them - my grandmother was Robina.. I've been searching all over for something - will definitely use the census & IGI next time.

Cheers.

Elizabeth Carr and Randolph Ward were my Maternal Grandparents.  Euphemia Ward was my Mother and Robert Neely was my Father.  Can Davieboy tell me how he found this info.  I would really appreciate the help.  Thank you
