Hi, this one came from out of the blue. Getting stuck, I'd moved on to other members of the families.  But now that I've been drawn back, I'm hoping that some good soul can help me with any information on John Craig's (bc.1700) parents and the parents of his wife, Agnes Campbell. My wife's family came down through their daughter Agnes (b1737) who married William Meikle (b9 Dec 1733) on 2 June 1765 in Avondale. Any information would be appreciated.
Regards
Ken Rees

James Craig who married Cecilia Craig is not the son of James Craig and Jean Fleming but is the son of James Craig a Shipwright and Christian Miller. Thus mcvicar you are not descended from the Craigs of Holms which is my family. As you must have the marriage certificate of 1873 you must have known that the  connection to the Craig of Holms was incorrect. As my information has been published in many websites for years (without my permission) is it  easier to download my family history rather than actually doing some research and finding your own family history which may be more interesting than mine?.

Forget Holms farm. To sound more positive here are your ancestors. According to his marriage certificate James Craig was the son of James Craig and Christina Miller. James senior was a ship wright and was born in Greenock Renfrewshire on 28 April 1815 to William Craig and Isabella MacIntosh.
James senior remarried Mary Buchanan in 1854 after the death of Christina Miller (betw 1851-1854)
Here are some census records which may interest you.

Surprised no-one has posted this http://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=15&lat=55.6191&lon=-4.1523&layers=5 to answer the original question.

Or this, which shows it on a modern map. http://www.geograph.org.uk/gridref/NS6437
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
