Aimed at mcvicars**

My grandfather, Thomas Henry Craig was born in Lambton, NSW in 1887. His parents were James Craig and Cecelia Craig (yes, her maiden name was also Craig – she was born in Govan and her parents in Kinnoull , Perthshire)
James and Cecelia emigrated to Australia on The Star of India - London to Sydney arrived 16 Jun 1876 with their 1yr old son Charles, who soon after died aged 1. They went on to have 8 children in Australia.

Hi - I have just started to look into the family history and decided I'd take a pot luck @ google and have found your postings. From what I have initially found from my family, it seems that my gg grandparents were James and Cecilia Craig with my g grandfather being William Craig, born 1877 in Sydney.  The tree though then seems to go a little bit different as I have James's parents being James Craig and Chistine Miller and Cecilia's parents being Charles Craig and Jane Burman

As mentioned, I'm all new to this so am hoping you can assist me by letting me know if you have a brother of William Craig to your grandfather Thomas Henry Craig.  I can then work out if the information I have is correct.

Thanks!

For many years I have been researching Avondale/Strathaven family names and have accumulated a large data base. I am interested in exchanging and/or confirming information with others who are looking in the same area. Names include: Allison, Bryson, Cochran, Fleming, Hamilton, Jamieson, Leiper, Wilson and more; places include Carnduff, Meadowfoot, Collinhill, Hawkwood, Hookhead, Netherfield, Craig, Struther, Halls of Glengavel and others. I'd especially like more monumental inscription details if they're available.

I had a wander around the old part of Strathaven cemetery today and took some photographs of headstones with lots of the above names. If anyone wants a copy then send me a pm with their email and a note of the surnames they are interested in.

Hello Pointer,

Welcome to Rootschat  :D

I have spent a lot of time trying to untangle my ancestors in Avondale, and Irvine valley. I have a few Leiper and Morton gravestone inscriptions from Newmils, or is that too far west for you?
I'm interested in Leipers (Avondale) Mortons (Near Darvel/Loudoun) and Wilsons, Flemings,Hamiltons, Lindsays, almost all of them farmers in the area. I'd be happy to share information with you and try to confirm some details.

Many thanks to both Leiper48 and Sancti for getting back so quickly. I haven't posted enough to be able to send a pm to anyone but hope to be able to do so very soon. The same applies to the pm from Gailmail - I can't get back to you yet but will do so as soon as I am able. I hope we can get in touch via e-mail to talk about what we have.

There is an old stone with the name written as Gavon Ailson and his spouse Margret Riddle dated 1805

Not sure if it is meant to be Alison
