According to the death records for Avondale parish, and I presume all are interred in the old burial ground at Strathaven, JOHN CRAIG, farmer, Holms was buried 23rd February 1854 in the 2W. My interpretation of 2W is that it is the position within the family plot.
Also JAMES CRAIG, Holms interred 26th DEcember 1851 in the 2E.
2W would be 2nd west of the stone, 2E would be 2nd east of the stone. Some of these old family plots were huge.
Strathaven is a very small place, the burial ground will be easy to find.

In had a quick look in Strathaven today. Many of the stones in the old part are badly weathered or lying face down but I did find a couple with Craig names on them. The main one was large, sandstone but appeared to have an older base.

One side of the stone has the following inscription

IN LOVING MEMORY
         OF
JOHN CRAIG
Late Farmer
who died at Holms, Avondale
28th August 1881 aged 66 years

          Also of

HIS SON JOHN CRAIG
ARCHITECT
who died 1st December 1878
Aged 20 years

ALSO HIS WIFE
CHRISTINA JAMIESON
who died 21st October 1888 aged 68 years

On the old base it says

1826

The burying place of

WILLIAM JAMIESON of MIDDLECROFT

and his wife and their children

three breadths

My interest in the Craigs of Avonvale, starts with Agnes (31/3/1737) who married William Meikle on 2/6/1765. Her father was John Craig, but I've no dob for him nor a wife or marriage. Two other daughters were Isobell (18/7/1728) and Elizabeth (8/10/1731). I'd appreciate any information on either of these points, if you have any.  ???
Regards
Ken
