Hi Here's a summary which could get you started: if you work thru the list you will find Agnes at the bottom of my line of Craigs. I have lots of the records etc but have summarised here for you. What I would really like is to see if you have anything else to add to this tree. In particular how the Meikles connect to the Craigs as the name comes up a few times. (and I happen to be dating a Meikle!) This list starts with my gt grandparents, James & Cecilia, arrival in Australia in 1876 and works back through the Craigs of Avondale. I am also working on the Craig line from Cecilia's line  of Craigs.
Let me know if you want any more info, and please share if you can add.
My grandfather, Thomas Henry Craig was born in Lambton, NSW in 1887. His parents were James Craig and Cecelia Craig (yes, her maiden name was also Craig – she was born in Govan and her parents in Kinnoull , Perthshire)
James and Cecelia emigrated to Australia on The Star of India - London to Sydney arrived 16 Jun 1876 with their 1yr old son Charles, who soon after died aged 1. They went on to have 8 children in Australia.

James & Cecilia were married on 21 Nov 1873 in Govan, Lanarkshre.

From here is the Holms' connection: (ie all males were born and died at or near Holms):

James was born in 1852 to James Craig & Jane (Jean) Fleming. He had sister Ann b1850

James Craig (snr) was born in 1809 (he died 1851 – 2mths before his son James was born) to John and Mary Craig.

In 1841 the Craig household at Holms was listed as:

John Craig (65) and wife Mary (65) with sons James (30yr- b 1809), John (25yr- b1815)

(Others in the household on census night were:William Anderson 12, Margaret Blackwood 20, Jean Campbell 15, Elizabeth Wilson 14, Elisabeth Fleming 8 Ann Wingfield 45)

Other children of John Craig (Born1776 in Holms Glengavel,Avondale,Lanarkshire,Scotland Died 1854-02-19 in Holms )and Mary Hamilton (1775-1865)

     Janet Craig (1797-1871)

     Agnes Craig (1800-1871)

     Robert Craig (1804-1857)

     Mary Craig (1806-1879)

     James Craig (1809-1854)

     Helen Craig (1811-1881)

John Craig (1815 -1881) John Craig married Christina and had William J Craig b1846, Elizabeth Craig Mary Craig Robert Craig Christina Craig  James Craig Jane Craig Jessie Craig John Craig

John Craig was born 1776 to Robert Craig (1734-1794) who was married to Agnes Dunn in 1771

Robert & Agnes other children: John, Agnes 1778-1854 and William 1790-1876

Robert Craig was born to John Craig (approx b1700) who was married to Agnes Campbell in 1723.

John & Agnes' other children were: Isobell (b1725) Elisabeth (b1731) Robert (above – b 1734 – 1794) and Agnes (b1737)

Hope this helps
cheers

Note too on Scotlands People that Williams name has been incorrectly transcribed as Muckle:
   02/06/1765   CRAIG   AGNES   WILLIAM MUCKLE/FR257   F   Avondale   /LANARK   621/ 0010 0263
But looking at copy is more likely Meikle.
There is  a birth record for William:
16/12/1742   MEIKLE   WILLIAM   JOHN MEIKLE/MARION PORTEOUS FR122   M   Lesmahagow   /LANARK   649/ 0010
is this the one on your tree?
There's a now-defunct family tree that lists William m to Agnes and that his parents were John and Marion Porteous?

As for Agnes's father John Craig; I think this may be his birth record, but still need to confirm
17/01/1692   CRAIG   JOHN   JOSEPH CRAIG/MARGARET DICK FR508   M   Ayr   /AYR   578/ 0020
and here is their marriage: (note Agnes' names is transcribed with two S's
08/06/1723   CAMPBELL   AGNESS   JOHN CRAIG/FR227   F   Avondale   /LANARK   621/ 0010

Hi Mcvicars

My OH is descended from Agnes Craig and William Meikle. He has another Craig/Meikle marriage in his tree:

Margaret Lennox Craig b 21/3/1829 Strathaven who married John Meikle b 1/6/1827 Highdyke, Avondale on 24/5/1851 in Avondale.

Margaret L Craig was the daughter of Robert Craig and Elizabeth Begg...does this link with your Craigs? John Meikle was the son of William Meikle and Elizabeth Jack and they farmed at Highdyke.

Regards

More than likely as Highdyke is only a few farms over from Holms. Margaret's birth would match in dates to  being a daughter of Robert Craig (1804-1857) son of John and Mary Craig of Holms. Will check census records

My research shows William Meikle b.9/12/1733 and d.1792. His children were John b.1/11/1766, Robert (12/12/1768), Agnes (12/12/1768), and another Agnes (24/12/1775).
William's parents I have as Robert Meikle b. 1706 in Lesmahagon. He married Margaret Weir in 1725, and she was b.4/1/1708, the daughter of William Weir and Agnes. Their children were Agnes (1726-31), Thomas (1728-29), Thomas (1729), Agnes (1731), William (1733-92), Marion (1736) and James (1739).
Robert's parents I have as Thomas Meikle (b.c 1670) and Bessie Couper (b.1668) they married1694, and the children were, Robert(1701), Margaret (1704), Marion (1709), Robert (1706), Thomas (1712) and William (1713).
Going forward from William and Agnes, I have Robert m. Agnes Stobo in Lesmahagow (19/3/1801), William m. Margaret Stewart ( Sept 1826) in Lesmahagow, and Agnes m.William Scott (June 1848) in Strathavon.
That's the limit of my Meikles, although I do have the children of the latter Meikles.
I'd appreciate any comments on any errors or omissions. :P   Ken

I can see it from my kitchen window.  What do you want to know about it?

Some members of the Craig family lived in my house too.

Ahh yes I heard there were more Craigs at Peelhill. If you look through this thread you will see the Craigs related to me so any information would be appreciated. Basically i was interested in what type of farmers they may have been etc? where would they have been schooled etc. The Craigs seem to have been in that immediate area from the mid 1700's and earlier in Ayr district generally. From what i understand the farms in the area were owned by the Duke of Hamilton and that Holms & Peelhill sold to Craigs in the 1980's? Presumably they were then tennant farmers for the preceding 200+ years?
Basically just trying to get a picture of the family's history in the area given it stretches such a long time back in one area.
thanks
