Somers - New Ross
« on: Sunday 19 July 09 13:52 BST (UK) »
Hi I am very new in fact today!

I am searching for my paternal grandfather and his family
My Grandfather's name was James Somers I believe his was born on 26 May 1905 his father was Moses Somers, in New Ross. He went on to marry my Grandmother Mary Atkinson in Dublin at Our Immaculate Lady Refuge in Rathmines No.1 Dublin on 24.7.1930 I have no other information about him at all other than once married the family moved at some point to Clonmel Co Tipperary where he worked in the boot and shoe factory before the family left to settle in Leicester England.

Any help or advice would be great thanks

1911 census for Wexford is available on the National Archives website at : http://census.nationalarchives.ie/

1901 data is due later this year.

You can order cert by post from the GRO www.groireland.ie

There is an Irish Civil index available on familysearch at :  http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#c=1408347;p=2;t=searchable

found these two marriages (index only) could be possible marriages for his parents.

MOSES SOMERS TO ELIZABETH SULLIVAN 1892 WEXFORD.

MOSES SOMERS TO MARY ANNE WALSH 1901 WEXFORD.

I think the best way to move forward is to get the birth cert for James Somers. Have a search for him on the civil index link posted earlier, and order a cert (or a few possible certs...) from the GRO. Once you have his mothers maiden name from the cert  you can start to search for the correct marriage .
