TRICKERS in Eye, Suffolk
« on: Friday 17 July 09 18:52 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I am trying to trace my family tree on the Tricker side.  I have traced them back to William Tricker who was born 4 oct 1811 and married a Elizabeth Jenny and they had eight children.  As far as i know they lived in Eye Suffolk.  If anyone has any more information about this could they please let me know.  ThankYou x

Hello Stricker and welcome to Rootschat

Eye seems a long way from the area where we usually find Tricker folk. Do you have details of them in Census in Eye?

I have no interest in the name myself but am in touch with some Tricker researchers in Australia that I have had the pleasure of meeting on visits to Suffolk.

There are a lot of Trickers in the area around Hadleigh/Boxford and then again in the Stowmarket area.

You will find the following websites will be useful in putting you in touch with other researchers, and for giving you information on the areas I have mentioned

hi
thanks for the reply.  i can find loads in the stowmarket and ipswich area but none seam to match to my family. i have a grave number for the cemetary in eye and a name but as yet have not found the grave (ineed to have a good look!)
I havent looked at many of the census's as you have to pay for alot of them.  I have got most of my information from the family bible that started in the early 1800's and included every birth, death and marriage.  I just seam stuck and cannot trace back any further the last one i have is william tricker who died on 14 oct 1847.
I need help if anyone knows any more.

Thank you x

Hi Stricker

I think the maiden name of Elizabeth is incorrect and should read Jessup not Jenny.   Looked for the marriage of William and Elizabeth and the only possible entry is a William Tricker and Betsey (pet form of Elizabeth) Jessup registered Hartismere district (which covered Eye) in Mar.qtr. of 1848 - Vol.13 - page 625.   From looking at census their eldest child is William b.1849 and, again looking in Hartismere district William Jessup Tricker was b.1849 (and died 1888).   Is it possible the entry in  the Bible  could read Jessup rather than Jenny?

The 1841 Census shows (transcribed as Fricker) at Eye:

William   55
Sarah     55
William   25
Sarah     25
James     15
Robert     3  (suspect this was probably a grandchild)

Ref. HO107-1023 - 8 - 7 - 6 - all born Suffolk.

The 1841 Census did not show relationships, ages were rounded down and it only showed whether born in county or not, not exact places.

William Tricker senior appears to have died Dec. qtr. 1847 Hartismere which ties in with the William death entry you mention.

Tried to check the IGI on familysearch but unfortunately the site is down for maintenance so I can't see if there are any entries on there that could relate to the family.

So, at the moment can only say that William Tricker's parents were a William and Sarah.

Annette, perhaps the bible entry states her two forenames, Elizabeth Jenny Jessup?
Just a thought  ;)

How wonderful to have your family bible stricker.

Stricker, as you mention going to Eye to look for the grave, are you near to Suffolk?

The census returns are available to search at all three branches of the SRO as are the parish records for the whole county.

Familysearch.org now working - there are only a few extracted entries for Eye and a number of submitted ones.

William's baptism not on there but did find some other children of William and Sarah:

Samuel bp.25/11/1810 son of William and Sarah
Sarah bp.21/12/1814   dau.            ditto
Mary Ann bp.11/4/1824         ditto    (aged 3)
Elizabeth          ditto               ditto   (aged 9)
Agnes               ditto               ditto   (aged 5)
Eleanor             ditto               ditto   (aged 2)
James               ditto                ditto  (aged 1)

There is also a submitted entry showing a William Tricker bp.8/5/1785 son of Mira Tricker.   Guess, as advised by suffolkmawther, you really need to check Eye parish records.

Forgot to mention that one submitted entry stated Sarah's maiden name as Taylor.

hi,
thanks for the baptism dates the majority of them match exactly!
I do have an entry in the bible for a jessup but it is of a Charles and Mariah/Marian Jessup who had two daughters Mary and Lucy and Two sons Charles and Charles (one died at 10weeks).  Although i have this information about the Jessups i have no way of matching it into the family.

The mother of William Tricker (Mira)  is very helpful as the dates fit and i have not been able to find out about his parents. Thank You.
Suffolkmawther i only live a couple of villages away.  the family has not moved far since the 1800's lol
