Hi David,

The reason I am able to provide such detail with the Padstow Records is that I have a copy of the records on microfiche which I purchased from the CRO. I use many resources.

There is much available free online these days. I suggest you take a good look at the resources listed for your countries/counties of interest. I always start with what is available free of charge. Cornwall is a great county for free resources. The sites we know about are all listed on our resource boards.

Outside of the free resources we all do need to consider what is most important for our own research, be it taking up subscriptions or purchasing CD's. I still have many census CD's in my collection purchased before so much was available either freely or subscription/pay per view sites.

Ancestry is a wonderful resource but it will depend on your subscription. If you have a world sub you will get many UK and Australian records. If you have only taken out a US subscription and have a lot of UK research you may consider upgrading.

Regards Kris  :)

Kris, thanks for the reply.  I do have the global ancestry.com but still think it is very slanted to the US data.  Thanks for all your help.  I think this family came to Cornwall from Wales.  If you find any link to Welsh families I would love to know.

PS Glad my meagre contribution was right !!!!
I was going to add a note to the poster that if you stick rigidly to spelling you could end up finding nothing.

I am also looking for more information about my Phillips family from Padstow.  My Mary Elizabeth Phillips born around 1816 (could vary)  Jmarried John Rosevear in Padstow on June 12, 1836.  They later moved to Ontario Canada.  I believe John Rosevear was born abt 1801 in Nanstallon/Bodmin, Cornwall England.  I am trying to find any information about their lives in the area (occupations, deeds, marriages, christening/baptisms).  If anyone has a connection to this family, I would love to hear from you!
