After a very quick (not at all thorough) search, I do not see the Loughlin's on the 1920 census.

I do not see your Daniel and John on the WWI reg cards.  After a quick look, I do not see them in Middlesex County in 1920.  Are you sure of their dates of birth?

I have the records of their births- def 1882 for Daniel. And 1884 for John. The ages could have been reversed.  The surname is McLaughlin (my mother's maiden name so no mistaking it!) -it could have been mis spelt but def not Coughlin/Coughlan. I feel they would have given their nationality as Irish and not English but I'm only surmising here! I wonder where their mother, Bessie was as I'm sure she was alive till at least 1920.

I don't know too much about American census records, but I believe "Ireland (English)" was for anyone not born in Northern Ireland???  I'm sure someone will be able to advise if I have it reversed.

Have not yet looked for Bessie.

Hi Lisa  :) If you are born in Northern Ireland which is part of Great Britain you are officially considered to be British (or English) but some people prefer to be classed as Irish as they live on the island of Ireland. Confusing, I know! Thanks for your help-I really appreciate it.

One of the reasons I asked about their ages is Daniel said he was age 24, born c1884 on his 8 May 1908 immigration record.

I'm wondering why I can't find their WWI reg cards.  :-\

Yes-the age has me baffled.   ::)    I've checked the info on the Ellis Is site and it all matches (except for his age) -he's coming from his brother Ed McLaughlin and he gives the correct address Kennaught St, Limavady, Co Derry. He's going to his other brother, John  in Phil, PA. The address isn't clear. From the record he has been in the US before-in 1907 but I haven't found that record.

It looks like the address is 2744 Lanona Street.  However, there doesn't appear to be such a street, now.
