William Herd 1760
« on: Tuesday 14 July 09 12:56 BST (UK) »
Hi Ian here

Was hoping someone if some had access to the following parish records

I am after the parents of William Herd born 28 July 1760 in Kinglassie, Auchterderran Fifeshire

I have an inkling his father was also a William but from another source I have heard the name George mentioned.

If someone does have access to these parish records it would be so greatly appreciated and break down the next wall

Kindest regards
Ian

Hi Ian

There is an entry showing on IGI at www.familysearch.org, actual extract from the Old Parish Registers:

WILLIAM HERD Birth: 28 JUL 1760/ Christening: 03 AUG 1760 Kinglassie, Fife
Parents:WILLIAM HERD

No mother's name showing. You can view the original image on Scotlands People, although there may not be any/much more info showing than above.

I think I will leave it to Ian to venture in to Tom's old posts  ::) Ian, for reference, these are some extended posts which contain some info on the Herd name on the Fife board:

www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,302370.0.html

There are a number of other people researching this line Ian, I don't know if you have tried to make contact to try and compare notes, for example:

Our family goes back to George Herd, b. 1702 and Janet Dalrumple, William Herd b. 1738 and Janet Hutcheson and William Herd b. 1760 and Elizabeth Pearson, m. 1786, Kinglassie. William and Eliz. had: 1) William b.1787, 2) Betty 1790, 3) Agnes 1792, m.James Anderson, 4)Alex. 1800, m.Janet Watson 4)David Penman 1802, m. Isabella Rennie, 5)John 1807 m. Helen Bayne/Bain, 6)James 1811 m. Margaret Templeman. Towns are Kinglassie, Auchterderran, Lochgelly, Cowdenbeath, Markinch, etc. There is a photo on the Fife Family History Website to be identified.

Ian, I'd willinging have you as my cousin....but I'm not connected to your line sadly....just doing some searches following your post  8)

The person you need to contact who is connected to your line is on that link that I posted on Ancestry, they are the ones that posted the line going back  :)

Monica (who will happily be your cousin by proxy until you connect with the other!)

I think your cousin Cathy is the one who has posted a lot of the information on forums  :) From the segment I posted, this is a link to the Herd photographs referred to there:

These photos look to have been posted by Cathy.
