Hi Just found your post i am related to the Ashford family. I have been trying to figure this one out but following the line back i got to Oziel Ashford with his wife Sarah Hoddinot. They had 3  children i think Sarah, Benjamin and Alfred which is my line. In 1841 he is recorded as Oziel but looking further on i believe he is actually Oswald Ashford. In 1851 he is living in the same location in witham friary with their son benjamin. Hope this helps.
