Hi Michael.
Thank you for the information you have given.
I still have a lot to learn but thankfully am being given lots of good advice.

The ref is Class: RG12; Piece: 4203; Folio 27;

I was once told (when asking if John was buried at Blaydon with the rest of his family) that no he was buried 'in the bigun' up the top'. Yes I did ask where 'up the top was' but was met with a strange look and told 'you know, up the top'.

I took up the top to mean Elswick as it is also so very large but cannot be sure.

A lot of my older relatives spoke like this and being very familiar with the Newcastle area could not understand why I did not know what or where they were talking about. It was just the way they were.

Kim

hi erin

I live not far from st james church in benwell.  They do have a graveyard but it is very small.  There is a cemetry which is pretty huge at elswick just along the road.  90 second drive from st james church.  Your ancestor could have been buried there.  It was st. Johns cemetry which is not the newcastle district of st johns  so hopefully that will stop the confusion.  I will check it out and get back to you.
Boag research newcastle upon tyne and beyond. Lisle research tweedmouth and newcastle, johnson (newcastle) Landers (alnwick and surrounding areas) reaveley (newcastle and Blyth) heslop (durham), Mckenna (newcastle got, Glasgow-got, sligo, ireland havent got, jardine (ireland), and loads more

hi again,

My grandmothers family were mckennas and roman catholic they lived in same area at same time.  Just a thought for you St josephs roman catholic church is on Armstrong Road, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE4 area.  You could write to the bishop and priest and request information directly from them.  They allowed me so I'm sure that wont be a problem for you.  good luck I will still have alook though for you.  St James Church is Church of England so it's unlikely he would be buried there.  St johns cemetry seems the more likely and catholics could be buried there in consecrated ground.

Thank you so much for your help Lorraine.
I will try and look at records for Elswick. It is quite sad really as he would be the only one to be buried there. One son died abroad and his other son, wife, daughter and their families are all buried close together at Blaydon.

A huge thank you to everyone for their input on this topic especially Diddy
John Kelly was indeed the John Kelly you told me about who died in 1891 aged 56 and I now have his death cerificate.
My family tree is branching out in many directions with the help and advice of many people on this forum so thank you to everyone who has helped me.
Kind regards Erin
