Hello Vi

Did you ever find George Bennett  1802 and Agnes Lisle on 1841/1851 census.  They were my GGG Grandparents on Bennett side.

They have been mistranscribed on 1841 and the family are down as Bennitt. Thomas and James are on it

Hello Vi

They are down as Bennitt, living at Cheswick Buildings, Ancroft, Cheswick, Durham.

George Bennitt   Age 38  1803  Occupation Agricultural Labourer
Agnes Bennitt     Age 34  - 1807
Thomas Bennitt   Age 13  - 1828
John Bennitt       Age 11 -  1830
Phillis Bennitt      Age 9 -  1832
Robert Bennitt    Age 7  -  1834
William Bennitt    Age 4   -  1837
James Bennitt     Age 2  -  1839
Isabella Bennitt Age 4 months 1841

No definate location of birth for any of them just says Durham - which stretched up that far in those days.

Let me know if there is anything else you need to know -  I might be able to help you.

Hi Vi and sparkle,

Brilliant you have made a connection

I'll just post the ref for 1841
HO107 318 8 9

1841 census just gives po.b. as Yes or No - as to whether they were born in the county they were living in

ages of adults over 15 years were rounded down to the nearest 5 years

relationships and marital status were not given

Happy hunting to both

Hi Sue and welcome to rootschat,

It certainly looks as if the Agnes on the 1871 census could be yours.  I don't see her baptism in the Bishops transcripts of the parish records for Ancroft though.  It could be that she was baptised elsewhere or could she possibly have been presbyterian - there was quite a strong presbyterian presence in that area.
