Hi Heather,

They do appear to be on the 1911.  If you'd like a pointer to them - let me know.  Are you aware the area they were in would be Wortley?  People can be confused by Wortley, often thinking it's Wortley the Leeds suburb.  Wortley, South Yorkshire was a registration district which covered Hoyland.  See here.................http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/wortley.html

Thank you Lizzie, Heather & maidmarion,

I now have a surfeit of Wadsworth at Wortley to sieve. :)  I'll improve my use of the 1911 census.
Unfortunately can't see the Wickersley clan connecting but will keep them in mind and will start work on the Directories.

I realise this is an old thread  - but just in case anyone is still monitoring it  :) I just came across the thread whilst looking for the Pheasant Inn on Google when tidying up some old records
This is one of my wife's family lines, through Richard's older sister Hannah. The family moved to the Pheasant Inn some time between the 1871 and 1881 censuses.
We found some confusion because the family name is written as Wordsworth in some records.

Hi GrahamH,  Good to get your response to this post.  (And weird as my spouse is a GrahamH).

His grandmother was a Jaques, sister of Richard's 2nd wife Grace Jaques. I'd tried to identify all her siblings and then down through the decades. We heard of the Wadsworths from my f.in.law - he was a contemporary of Richard's 3rd child Ann b. 1901 who married Joseph Dyer. And of course we visited the various inns et connected with Richard, later Ann and her sibling Sam, when we visited Barnsley, Platts Common etc.   Pheasant Inn,  The Cross Keys and later Rockingham Arms at Wentworth.  My Father in law came to Australia 1926 but kept up links with family as did we.

Somewhere I have a photo which includes Sam & Mabel Wadsworth, Ann Dyer and son Jos, Dick Wadsworth as well as 3 or 4 of the Jaques sisters. taken abt 1940.  Someone has it up on Ancestry now.

I know nothing of Richard's forebears, having concentrated on his children from both marriages. Found 7 grandchildren - 4 now deceased and have not traced 3 ggc.   Regards from the Antipodes. Heather

Hello Heather,

We did a similar thing, only taking Jill's line (from Hannah) forward to any extent. It's a long time since we had time to do much research so really need to get back into it but I do have a bit more on the two preceding generations.

I've attached a quick report from my Brother's Keeper database which I hope will be useful. Hopefully we haven't made mistakes.

Graham
