Both John and Robert HUTTON applied for free passage.

There may be a little more in the applications, but would need be at library for that. It will probably only list where the application was made.

There is an extracted record on the IGI

Robert HUTTON = Catherine RENWICK 2 June 1839 Hobkirk, Roxburgh. Scotland so it would appear they emigrated soon after marriage.

HUTTON Robert applicaton No 5452 Embakation Number 3386 (1 male 1 female)
HUTTON John applicaton No 5453 Embakation Number 3385 (1 male)

alas The children do not appear to have been registered - still nothing tying Helen to this family.

The children - No marriage for Thomas in SA, Agnes married at the Presbyterian Church Mt Barker

John the possible connection mentioned above married Christina STEWART res of Mrs Stewart  Monarto

Cheers Kris  :)

A lot of these early births were not registered. I have no reason to connect Helen with the other Robert HUTTON Jenn. They were not married till 1857 and were not in this area. I have been stumbling upon him all morning. I think Helen was the daughter of this Mt Barker, Monarto couple, just been trying to prove it.

Robert HUTTON is listed as an early Mt Barker resident and in 1930 had a surviving daughter in Monarto  ;)

Robert Hutton

Robert Hutton was among the early settlers in the district. In 1846 he had his church connections with Gouger Street, Adelaide, and on January 12 of that year was elected a member of the committee of management. He died on May 25 1860 at the age of 58. He left a widow, two sons, and three daughters surviving him. The family were among the first settlers to go to Monarto between 1868 and 1870. A son John (Sanderston) and two daughters at Monarto and Murray Bridge, still survive.

Early Mount Barker - Who Was Who? - Rev. W. Gray, Mt Barker Courier July 11 1930

Kris it would seem that this family fall in the category of the many early Scottish families that didn't register their children...reference made my Robert Jaunay in one of his newsletters.

Perhaps there may be some parish records for baptisms of the chn.

Cheers

It  would  appear  that  Whitty  had  some of  this information  a while ago,  perhaps  he just forgot about it.

I  maybe be missing something  here?  but you  would not  think  that Helen Hutton was  the Daughter of Robert and Christian  as  she was born  well after this couple arrived in South Australia and is  not showing as a birth to  them  but  then all births were not registered.

I  wondered if  she was  connected to Robert Hutton and Eliz Downey on whom we did a very detailed  thread last year, but  her birth does not appear to be registered in SA

I  could not see any  births  to  the James Wittaker and Helen Hutton  either

kind thoughts Jenn

Dear Jenn,
As much as it would thrill me to have another relative, this family doesn't seem to be related to Robert and Catherine.......well, not through the Australian families that we have unearthed.......however, this family and Robert were both from Scotland, so it is possible there is a connection back in the land of the tartan.  ;D

Cheers

Yes I  did  realise  that having read through all my  notes on  the family etc   but  threw it in  the mix  just in case and of course to point out  there was at least one more Robert Hutton  in SA at  that time.

AS Kris says she feels she is on  the right track

Iam  wondering  who Whitty  is related too?
