Can you elaborate further and explain your source? To support your comment, my 3x great-grandfather, John Armitage, came to New York state before 1816, the year he purchased land. We think he came from Tipperary. He was instrumental in founding a Methodist church near him and one of his sons, my 2x great-grandfather became a Methodist minister. I would like to understand the history better, even though I don't have concrete family ties back to Ireland.
