Corbetts of Shropshire

Hello, I'm a Corbett through my mother's side of the family and they all came from Shropshire in the early 1900s.  Thanks to the Corbett Study group I have my ancestors traced to 1680 (William Corbett).  I was wondering if there was a connection with the Norman Corbetts that settled in Shropshire after the conquest, at the moment there doesn't seem to be one as it seems this Corbett family in the 1600s weren't particularly wealthy.  Is it likely that there is a connection somehow do you think or that this is a completely different Corbett line that just happens to be in the same area?  My family all have the traditional Corbett features too (raven hair and tall), althought I'm blonde and small after my dad's side.  So far a connection seems unlikely but at the same time it makes sense if you know what I mean?

I am a Corbett by birth and my Corbett line although dark haired are not particularly tall!...........we do however all originate from Shropshire.
My line of Corbett's are proving to be quite difficult to trace and although I have some new leads, I have only reliably traced back as far as 1810 with my gt.gt.gt.grandfather Richard Corbett. They were all relatively poor, usually coal miners or labourers mostly in the areas of Dawley ,Madeley Wellington etc.
Would love to see your tree to see if our families cross paths!.......a fellow researcher of the Corbett name would be most welcome!

I am also descended from William Corbett 1680,  he is my 6 X g/grandfather.  This is where I've come to a halt  because of a doubt over his parentage.

I lost the family tree I was sent, I need to ask for it again  .  I can remember the first four which were:

William married Eliza
Thomas married Elizabeth Pritchard
William  married Jane Judgson (?)
William married (?)

Not hard to remember the male side lol.  I'm so annoyed my computer went funny and I lost everything, but as I said I can ask to have it sent through again.  Alyson my family were all caol miners too, so you know of a Thomas Corbett in your family tree who was mayor of Shrewsbury?  He pops up as a notable character in mine so if he does in yours we have the same family.

For the William born 1680 records guess that his parents may be yet another William (born around 1660) and Jane, is that how far you got Chris?  Does your family tree match mine so far up there ^^^ or are you descended from their other children?

Hi,

I am descended from the marriage of his son Thomas and Elizabeth Pritchard.

It is my understanding that if we can sort out William's parents we will have a direct line back to Roger? DeCorbett who came over at the request of the Earl of Shrewsbury to fight the Welsh in Montgomeryshire.

I have William 1680's children as:

William 1706
Thomas 1708
Robert 1719   m Mary Wynne 23 Jan 1741 All Saints Wellington.  They had 9 children

Wow really?  I've been trying to find a link with the Norman family but as I said even in the 1600s our Corbett family appears to have been poor.  It would be exciting if we could find that link though (I'm very interested in Medieval history), what makes you think the line could be traced back to Roger?

I had the line back to Roger amonst my notes and have from time to time have been checking them.
Lo and behold I can't put my hands on them now. 
As soon as I can I'll let you have a copy, but please remember that most of it is not my work and I haven't checked it all out yet so treat with some caution.

Hello, I'd forgotten about this.  Have you found your papers?  The Corbett study group seems to have disappeared off the internet so I can't email Jean Noble about getting another copy of my tree at the moment. :/
