My own view is  this  is  not  your man, yours may very well stayed in England.

I  think  what we have found does  show two different men,

What does everyone else think?

In the first posting it is stated that  the parents are: William Garnett and Jane Fenwick

Then this on NSW Deaths:
11778/1957  GARNETT  GEORGE WILLIAM  59 YEARS BLACKTOWN  ELLEN  PARRAMATTA

So, I can't see how the George in the death notice is the correct one, if he is the one who married Ethel.

Allan,

Do you know for sure that your George came to NSW?

I think  the only  way  to be sure is  to buy a copy of  the marriage certiifcat at least that will rule him in or out.

He could have easily stayed in England and might turn up on later census ::)

No - I dont know where he went - and having studied everything here I agree this is probably the wrong guy. Tropicalj indicated records say he is born in Poplar, mine is born in Gargrave.  As I posted on Friday - back to the hunt
I havent found a marriage in the UK, and am currently browsing the death indexes
I am up to 1920 - not found yet.

Thanks all for the input
