marriage George BEADLE to Elizabeth Richardson
« on: Thursday 09 July 09 10:18 BST (UK) »
Hi - I'm in need of a marriage record/certificate for George BEADLE to Elizabeth RICHARDSON. They were married in 1826 in Surrey, at St John the Baptist Church. I want to see who their parents were, accurate birth dates and occupations.
Thanks for any ideas on how I can go about getting this!

1826 is before Civil registation began, so there will be no marriage cert.

You will need to find the marriage in Parish records. Seems you have the name of a Church, but not what town/village it is in! You will need that before anyone who may have access to PArish records could help.
Parish Records can be searched at the Local Record Office, for Surrey that it is in Woking, I dont know where you live or if you can get there.
But - bear in mind the marriage entry in the PArish record will not give their parents names, or their birth dates etc!

That will involve a lot more detective work.  Hopefully you can find where they said they were born, and approx when,  by finding them in later censuses. It will then be a case of looking in Parish Records for possible christenings for them, in the Parish where they said they were born and probably neighbouring ones too.

OK - I seee the marriage on the IGI, and it is an extracted entry.
17 Dec 1826
St JOhn the Baptist, CROYDON, Surrey

You can order the Parish Register Films to view at your Local LDS Centre (LAtter Day Saints) I beleive, though I have never done it myself. That wouls be one way of seeing all the info there is to see about this marriage.

St John the Baptist Surrey sounds as though it is Croydon.

If no-one else picks this up I will have a look in the parish records next time I go

Thanks so much for your replies. I have birth date for George, in 1800 or 1801, from censuses. He was born in Cudham, Kent. For Elizabeth its a bit more vague - one census said she was born in about 1804 in Croydon, Surrey, but there is a death record that matches her age if she was born in 1810... The one from 1804 died in Reigate which isn't impossible but not sure. Also, if 1804 is true, she would have had her last child at 51 yrs old, in 1855, so pretty old to have a child but also not impossible!

I'll check out the LDS centre... and Tricia, I would greatly appreciate if you wouldn't mind looking for me!
