Request for images of Northumberland Fusiliers 1st World War
« on: Wednesday 08 July 09 17:05 BST (UK) »
On the 16th June 1915 the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers went into battle at Bellewaarde, Ypres, Belgium. My Great Uncle, age 19 was killed in action on that day.

I started to look into what happened and found information of many casualties. The battle was particularly fearce.

I have decided to build a website dedicated to ALL the men of 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and to tell their story of the 16th June 1915.

To be able to help people fully understand in detail the full horrors, I need to tell the individual soldiers story and if possible a picture that will put a human face on it.

I have attached a full list of deaths due to this action which may help you.

Now here is the tricky bit: Do you have a relation who served in the 1st battalion Northumberland Fusiliers between 1914 and the end of 1915 (I need to find those that died and survived. Do you have a picture and/or a story that can be added to the dedication of these very brave men. I would be very pleased to hear from you.

I recently came into possession of bapipes made by Peter Henderson for the 3rd Volunteer Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers. I understand that they began as the 1st Newcastleon-Tyne Rifle Volunteer Corps. and were renamed as the 3rd VBNF in 1883. I also understand that te 3rd VBNF was reorganized in1908 to become part of the Territorial Force. I would apprecaite any information on what role pipers or a pipe corps may have played either in the 3rd VBNF or in any subsequent reorganization of the Northumberlan Fusiliers.

Thanks,

John Quinn

Hi John

Thanks for the reply.

Sorry to say my knowledge doesn't stretch to answering this question.
It is a very interesting one though. I would suggest a trip to the 'Great War Forum' you can follow this link -

http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/

There are many pals on there who should be able to give an accurate answer.

Best of luck

Martin

Hi my grandfather ( George Percy Hood) served in the northumberland fusiliers and at some point was seriously wounded but which battle I do not know.
I have his medals.
