Hi Martin,

Just found this Post.

My Grandfather Private Joseph Collins 15655 1st Battallion Northumberland Fusiliers was listed as wounded at Hooge in June 1915. I dont have any information further to that but he survived the war. He came from South Shields but I dont know if he returned to the battalion in France or not. He eventually became an acting sergeant.
Any additional info would be great.

regards

Hi Martin,

I have a great uncle who survived the trenches and fought with the Northumberland Fusiliers despite being a teacher from Portsmouth. Unfortunately I'm not sure which battalion he was in  - I can offer this info.: 'Benjamin L Goater Northumberland Fusiliers 47039 Private'.  He was known in the family for never talking about his experiences. His elder brother Horace who was my grandfather also started the war with the Northumberland Fusiliers and was made a temporary Captain in the reserve before being transferred.

Phil

Hi, Chris
Thanks for the reply to the post.

Joseph is noted in the Northumberland Fusilieres diary for the day:

15655   Pte   Collins   J   W   Wounded   16/06/1915

The 'W' is the Company in which he served, The same as my Great Uncle.
You can find all the information on what happened that day by visiting my website Bellewaarde 1915 at  www.bellewaarde1915.co.uk

If you have Josephs family details - Mother, father, siblings, birth and death date and Census info I will be able to create a page for him so that he may be remembered for what he did that day

You can contact me direct via the sites info email address by clicking on the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the sites page.

Sorry Martin I haven't got a clue at this moment in time - I guess I'd have to see his medal card.
