Manor Crescent, Brighton?
« on: Wednesday 08 July 09 10:33 BST (UK) »
Good morning
Please would anyone be able to tell me where the nearest Church of England would have been to Manor Crescent, Brighton in 1944/45?
I am trying to locate a baptism and so would anyone know if baptisms are searchable for the years 1944/45 please?
Many thanks

Morning

if you go to google maps and put in Manor Crescent Brighton it should show you a map of this area if you then type in the box where it says  - search nearby
if you type in churches

it should give you a whole list and you can see which one is closest  to Manor Crescent it also gives you telephone no.s

Hi Toni
Thanks for your reply.  I did that earlier and came up with Manor Road, Manor Hill and Manor Way but not Manor Crescent - I wonder if it still exists or if it was near these roads?

Kind regards

yes Manor Crescent still exists it somes up when i type it in google maps if you zoom in the name of the smaller roads will come up,
it is a crescent shape off the southern end of Manor Hill - the pin point should be right on it.

Just did a search for Manor Crescent on www.streetmap.co.uk  and on their map it's shown simply as "M.C." !

Hello Cranstone,

I wonder the name of the person you are seeking?

There are parish registers  in the Record Office in Lewes. Also, there is an archive for Brighton itself in the Museum in Brighton. The latter has parish registers on microfilm and for all the churches in Brighton. I know they do a research service and it might be worth an enquiry.

Hello again,

A quick look reveals there are many churches in that area today. The likelihood is that there were others around there years ago. I know the problem as I am having this with my relatives from Brighton. Needle and haystack come to mind.

Hi everyone

Many thanks for all your help and suggestions.  Her name was (she's married now) Vallerie Virginia St. Clair Beach.
