Hi Rod and welcome to rootschat :D

Have you some dates please for say John and Mary's marriage or for some of their kids?
Were they married in England and if so whereabouts?
Dates and places make searching simpler :D

If they lived in England until 1901- which is how one could read your post- have you checked them out on any census?  Knowing this will  avoid tranversing the same ground.

Charlotte,
The Butlers come from Whiteabbey in Northern Ireland around late 1880s to 1915 then some moved to CarrickFergus & beyond.
John Butler died 1903, his second wife Jane Gormley Butler died 1950
I have copies of extracts of birth certs of their children  9 of them.
I know bits a pieces about Jane & her children , but Johns first marriage I know very little , he had 4 children I believe 1 was John died in WW1 he was married had children , his decendent has been asking the same questions Im asking on this site HER name is Jo Mollyrose.
I hope this makes sense.

Thanks Rod

Rod, when you say he died in WW1 do you mean as a serviceman?

If so the CWGC [Commonweath War Grave Commission] site should have an entry for him which may give the names of his next of kin and address. It would be worth looking to see if this leads anywhere useful for you. The site is free to search etc.

Rod, I think I'm correct in saying that you could get him army file if you wanted ityou certainly can get the files in Canada and Australia. ...
It may contain more family info.

A question about availability etc on the Armed AServices Board would tell you the answer if you decide you are interested in doing this.
