There is a dot there near that tail of the y..  The tail of the y and the second last letter of the bottom line merge which is unfortunate.

lizdb's suggestion of looking to see if there is any other clue seems a good way to try, if that's possible.

I have searched both Irish & Scottish sites for any Mc Claid or Mc Glaid and came up with nothing
So i decided just to google the name Mc Claid and i got results   Mostly they are about a doctor in America but there was also a site called Whitepages, i think its like an American phone book.  There is thousands of Mc Claid in it   Mmmmm   so now i am thinking that just maybe she came over to Ireland from America??  What do you think?

I have searched for McGlaid on the site that I mentioned previously & there are a few, plus variants on the name.  There is a marriage record of a Francis Convery & Mary Maglade in 1876 in Co Down.  But, of course, this may not be them!

Their son James was born in 1874 so im not to sure if that is them.  It so frustrating

There's a listing for James Convery on that site b 1873 in Co Antrim.  So that could be him.  It should give parents details there.  Another way to get more info is to look at the 1881 Scottish census.  I can see a household there with a Francis Convery and there's a Mary in the household.  This will also give their ages & where they originate from.

Just trying to help you out!  Maybe you've already looked at all this!
