Hi Adam
Thanks for that its something else to Tree. The Longstaff generosity gene must have rubbed off on me  . This post prompted me to do something I have been meaning to do for many years, and was to visit St Andrews. I photographed all the available gravestones and am in the process of transcribing them. I found one of my lot and boy did it make the trip worthwhile, the information on a gravestone can be like a lottery win.

Thanks for the link can't find St Andrews though. Ouch @ £5.50 for a transcription. I am more than happy to let anyone have a copy of the actual gravestone if I have one.

Hello Gary. That £5.50 is for all the inscriptions for the  graveyard.
I think that is a reasonable price.
Just go to publications page on that site and then gravestone inscriptions.

I have to re-check all my facts but I believe I have a John Longstaff married to a Mary Todd my GG Grandfathers sister. she was born 1812 in Byers Green and Baptised at auckland St Andrews along with the rest of the family.

Firstly welcome to RootsChat.I notice that this is your first posting.
According to my records Mary Ann Todd was born 18.12.1811 and bapt.12.1.1812.She died here in Australia 26.11.1856.She was a daughter of Christopher Todd and Ann Apedale.They lived at Byersgreen.
John and Mary Ann married by Banns 13.6.1835 Auckland St Andrews.
They went to New York in the 1840s where a John Henry and Agnes were born.John Henry was the great grandfather of my late wife.
In 1853 the family came on to Australia.
I do hope that we have information to share.

Hi, It appears that we are talking about the same family. Mary Todd/Longstaff was the sister of William, Son of Christopher Todd and Ann Apedaile of Byers Green. William Arrived in Australia in November 1854 on the Ship "Kate". He unfortunately only survived until 1859 when he died in Sydney.

I have the rest of the earlier family I believe and certainly the history from that point to today.

I am happy to share what information I have.

I am sure we are speaking of the same family.
I was unaware that anyother family came to Australia.
John,Mary and three children were living Castleton,Richmond,New York at the 1850 Census.
They arrived here March 1853 on "Nebraska" and went gold mining at Forest Creek (now known as Chewton).
I have the Bishop's Transcript for Mary Todd born 29th Dec.1811,bapt.Jan 12th 1812.She was described as the 2nd daughter of Christopher Todd of Byers Green a mason,a native of Nutty Hagg by his wife Ann Apedale a native of Bishop Auckland.
