Interesting Occupation
« on: Monday 06 July 09 03:24 BST (UK) »
Thought this might amuse?
Came across the attached for one of my other half's ancestors (in 1901 ), 7th line down, and can just see the poor enumerator writing what he heard then doing a double-take...what, no eye-patch or parrot on shoulder, oh you said...

Colvin, Shannon, Kay, Taylor, Ross, Burns, Blisset, Faza(c)kerley, Gardner

Liverpool, Wiltshire, Isle of Man, New Brunswick

Actually the correction will have been made by the clerk in the census office extracting occupations, (the handwriting is different) not the enumerator, who had to copy what had been entered on the householder's schedule into his enumerator's book. The previous occupations have also been change to accepted definitions.
