FOY family
« on: Sunday 05 July 09 18:16 BST (UK) »
This is a bit of long shot but here goes anyway.

My mum is a Foy. Her grandad John Owen (known as Odie) Foy came from Galway, was born abt 1863 and I believe had two brothers who went to USA. Odie came to Warrington and married Catherine Costello.

The family stayed in Warrington except for a period in the early 1900s when they lived in Poulton cum Seacombe. I believe it's on the Wirral.

They were in Middle Road, Poulton in 1901 and were back in Warrington by 1911.

My mum remembers going to visit some people in the Wirral in the early 1930s. But her younger brother and sister have no memory of this so the visits must have ceased around the time of the war I suppose.

My query is does anyone have any links to Foys in their tree who might be relatives of my branch, or know of any friendship connections?

Also, John Owen was a labourer at The Seacombe Pressed Brick and Tile Works Ltd on Poulton Road, and left in July 1903. Can anyone tell me about this business?

Any clues or info would be very gratefully received.
Thanks.

It is situated off the New chester Road Near Bebington

Thanks Celia.
Do you think that means there never was a Middle Road in Seacombe? How far away is Bebington? Is it likely to be the same one? You can tell that I do not know the area at all can't you!
Many thanks for the info,
Christmassy

If the census says that was there address. It must have been there. On the other hand the book just says Middle road wirral,Bebington is in wirral as well ::)

I must have been tired when i said that :)

Celia

P.S. If the Road had been in Seacombe  and still there now it would have (Wall) So as it just says (Wir) it must refere to Bebington. Does anyone know if there was a Middle Road in seacome in 1901

Hi Celia,
Am I right in thinking that your trade directory wouldn't include a humble labourer called Foy in that road?
Just greedy aren't I?
all the best and thanks,
christmassy

I cheated finding that ;D I normally use the directories in the library its quicker ;D But i used the on-line one

Think it was part 1 street directory,I have had a look for any Foys but haven't found any yet.I haven't finished looking yet though. Will have a scout round round when i go back to the library. The little picture i put up was just to show you that the road was there.I only did it quick,It says Middle Road, then underneath another road,so that road was i think off Middle  road.I will check that tomorrow for.I don't suppose it gave a number on the census did it.If John had his own address yes he would be in the directory.

Hi Celia,
They were at 17 Middle Road in 1901 census. Head of family was John Owen Foy and wife was Catherine.
I didn't know there was an online directory. Could you let me have the address and I'll scout around neighbouring streets to see if there are any surnames I recognise who crop up in the family later on.
Whoo, I love a good chase.
Thanks again for your interest and help,
best wishes, Christmassy
