1841 Census
« on: Sunday 05 July 09 12:02 BST (UK) »
Hi
Wondering if Fifer or some other kind soul could check the 1841 census for me please?

I am looking for a father & son both named Alexander Boyle born Ireland c 1805 and 1825  respectively.

They could be anywhere and I am simply trying to gather information for elimination purposes but a possibiity would be Middlesex.

Of course I will be delighted if they're possibly with other family members ;D
TIA
Dale

Hi Dale

Where do you have them on the 1851 census and does that give any indication that they would have left Ireland by 1841?

There is a 15 year old Alexander Boyle living in Liverpool with (brother?) James age 10. No other Boyles.

They are living with Thomas & Catherine Rogers & their family.

Bolton Street, Walton On The Hill, Derby, West, Liverpool.
Ref RG number: HO107 Piece: 520 Book/Folio: 3/46 Page: 14

There is an Alexander Boyle (1806) living in Carey Street Cook's Court, St Clement Danes, Westminster. He gives his place of birth as in county (Middx).

There are two young men (unrelated to Alexander) both born in Ireland.

Alexander's profession is listed as Law stationer (I Think!)

Thanks for your replies Valda & Joanna.
At this point in time I am rather "lost" ! My Irish Boyle family  emigrated between 1862 & 1865
Father Alexander had obviously lost his wife Lucinda after 1845 when the youngest child was born (as far as I know).

Alexander was born 1805 (from Death Cert) -  had children Alexander 1825, huge gap then , Henry 1838 (Newtownards Co Down), Margaret 1840, Sarah 1844 and Mary 1845.

Family rumours have  a strong connection to Scotland (Ayrshire in particular) & there is some  evidence to point to Henry having been there circa 1861.

I noted on the pilot Family Search  that there were 2 Alexanders born about the same time as mine and secretly hoped that they might have been together!

It's very interesting that there is an Alexander with a James as there is a James Boyle living in the same rural settlement that they pioneered but  so far I haven't been able to connect James to the rest of the family.

And Lucinda  doesn't appear anywhere but in America!

Perhaps I need to try 1851 and 1861 if only to eliminate  possibiltities!
Thank you I'll store the information  for future reference.

Dale

There is no Lucinda Boyle death registration in England so all these events must have taken place in Ireland (or possibly Scotland I'm confused from the information you have given) where the family it would appear was until well past the 1841 census.
If they didn't emigrate (to England?) until 1862 & 1865 why are you requesting a search of the English (London and Middlesex) 1841 census?

There are three Alexander Boyles on the Scottish census for 1851, one in Wales and one in England all born Ireland - more not born Ireland. Alexander Boyle is not an uncommon Irish/Scottish name.

Hi
YOU are confused?  Not half as much as me! I have every possible record  for New Zealand about the family. It is obvious that various members of the family moved to other countries at different times (common in immigrant families)which makes it difficult to track individuals and to reconcile the differing "rumours", memorabilia  and photos among existing branches of the family.
It seems certain that all the children were born Ireland, possible that there was a military connnection (which might explain the movement), deifinite that Henry Boyle had a connection to Ayrshire (the county from which he emigrated to NZ) & that a son married into a family which had emigrated from America to the same small community in NZ and posibly knew each other previously as they also had Irish connections).

At this time  I need to identify all possibilities and eliminate them through further research.
Thanks for your interest.
Dale

Hi Dale

From what you say it is the Scottish censuses you need to check. There doesn't seem any evidence that the family lived in England or if they did were only here long enough to pass through when emigrating to somewhere else.
