Hi Gang

Is anyone planing on going to HEF record office & if so could they spare me the time to check some dates taken from an old British Vital record Disk PRETTY PLEASE

The records are all for Whitbourne HEF  & are the children of John & Mary Holliday (Mary's maiden name was Beddington)

James Bp 15 SEP 1793, Mary Bp 7 DEC 1794, John Bp 7 AUG 1796, Sarah Bp 21 OCT 1798, Charles (my gt gt grandfather) Bp 1 FEB 1801, William Bp 17 JUL 1803, Anne Bp 5 MAY 1805, George Bp 21 FEB 1808 any additional information would be more than welcome.

This is pushing my luck but I wonder if it would be possible to check the marriage of John Holliday & Mary Beddington C17192 Whitbourne I presume but have nothing but their childrens baptisms to go on.

A big thank you to anyone who can help me & thanks to anyone who reads this request

from the Herefordshire Marriage Index:
John Holliday m. Mary Beddington at Whitbourne on 6 August 1792.

These days, the Hereford Record office opens for only one week each month - as the staff are preparing for a move to a new building. The week for July has passed. The next week of opening is in August.

So, I could do look-up your queries in August - if you would like me to do so.

Hi Jean

Thank you so very much for being kind enough to reply to my posting & I would love it if you could see your way clear (only when you have the time to spare) if you could do me a look up of the original entry.  I know this is a nerve but I dont have a clue as to who Mary's parents were & wonder if she came from Whitbourne? I know that Charles one of the sons of married Amelia Morton & they raised a fimily just over the boarder in Martley WOR

Thank you once again & if you need any look ups done in WOR I shall be going to that county (where I was born) in AUG/SEP for a holiday & spend one day a week in the Hive (record office) so dont hesitate if you think I can help you

hello Phil,

I’ll do the searches for you during the one week in August when the Hereford Record Office is open.

I see from the Hereford Marriage Index that John Holliday & Mary Beddington married by licence – rather than by banns. It is almost certain that the Marriage Licence was issued by the Diocese of Hereford – so the Marriage Licence Bond should be at the Hereford Record Office. In August, I will have a look at it for you.

Did you know that the surnames of Holliday & Beddington were extremely uncommon in Herefordshire.

Herefordshire Marriage Index 1700 to 1837
Halliday / Holliday grooms – 5.
Halliday / Holliday brides – 2.
Beddington / Biddington grooms – 3.
Beddington / Biddington brides – 4.

The earliest Holliday groom was Charles Holyday who married Elizabeth Thomas at Walford on 30 May 1714.
The earliest Beddington bride was Sarah Beddington who married Thomas Shergoole at Tedstone Delamare in 1785.

Perhaps the Holliday & Beddington families have their origins in Worcestershire.
