Wow! we're related! You must be my mother's cousin then...(Diana Dunkley/Giles)
My grandfather, John Giles-son of Edward, is in Canada at present and will be so pleased to hear this news. If you'd like to see the tree here's the link:

http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/17522908/family?fpid=521144717

There are some photos on this one (the second) and will soon update both of these trees. If you have a tree and would like to merge, just let me know.
Do you have any photos of Frank? -or anyone else? we'd be interested to see them...
My name is Claire James, I'm on the tree...
Kind regards,
Claire

My father talked with your Grandfather John on Friday so It will not be new news for him. I have been working on the tree my self for about 3 years on and off, so it was great to hear from you. Now how many cousins do I have? and where are they located?
Very interesting.
Barry

Hello Barry,
I've received an email from Wanda in Canada so I knew they'd spoken...
The children of Edward are, Ellen (known as Nell) who lives in Newmarket Toronto,
Ruby-who lives in Baltimore USA,
Emily-who lives in Nottingham England
and John (my grandad) who lives in Leicester England.
Nell has a daughter Wanda, Ruby has a son Bill Tolhurst (also on rootschat) and a daughter Jean (yes, Billy Jean!) Emily had no children and John has two daughters, Diana (my mother) and Rosalind and a son Edward. We all live in Leicester/shire England.
mail soon,
Claire

Wow, the Giles Family tree is coming out of the woodwork.  My name is Gary Giles, my father was Howards brother.  Howard was the one that was contacted by John Giles while he was recently in Toronto.  Like Barry I also have been working on the tree, and have been doing so for about 10 years.  Barry and I share information and pass it on to Howard who started the whole process many years ago.  In John's telephone call he indicated that he would send all of the information which he has to Howard.  I look forward to seeing the history that he has found through his research.  I sent an e-mail to John's nephew in England, however have not yet had a reply...

Hello Gary,
My grandad, John Giles, knew of Howards existence but didn't know where to find him, when we joined rootschat and found a 'HBG' looking for Giles', he was sure it was him! as the post was dated 2006 and rootschat told us he'd not been on in a long while we came to a dead-end. Every time my grandad visits he says, 'have you heard yet?' he's driven us bonkers! This is the news he's been waiting for!
Gary, if you go back through this thread you'll see I've posted a link to our two family trees, the one on myheritage is quite detailed and dates back to the mid-1600s. Howard and Frank are on there and so must be your father. (here it is again)

If you have published a tree we could merge them. We also have photos and will update it soon.
Regards,
Claire

BTW, if you look at the names on the tree, it's funny how the same names are being recycled, my brother is Thomas Henry, there's Francis, Edward etc...

Also, your father must be a cousin of my grandad too...On the tree he is Francis John Giles-married Joyce Mary-Kay. He likes to be known as John...

I do have a tree, and it is in a program called Family Tree Maker, I'm not sure if it is compatible with anything you have but we can try. My Father Harold Trevor Giles who was in the Canadian Air force and his brother Ted who was in the Navy  both met John in England during the second world war.  I'll have a look at the tree on Heritage...

Thanks

Gary

We have found a new giles born 1795 in Buckland Berkshire. He appears with his wife Mary in the 1851 census living in Bishopstone Wiltshire. Wife Mary is listed as having been born in America/ canada.... was this how agricultural labourers from a small village were able to emigrate ? did they go to her family? We don't know her surname so difficult to trace her. This find has thrown up more questions than answers. would appreciate any help shedding some light on this mystery
Regards John
