pond in Pontlottyn
« on: Wednesday 01 July 09 06:56 BST (UK) »
Hello there
This will seem to be really daft but years ago my father used to tell me that he and his friends used to go swimming in a pond/pool up the mountain in Pontlottyen.  Does anyone know of such a pond/pool that would have existed and the name of it?  My father always used to say that he didn't know how deep it was he just said it was bottomless.

Thankyou again
Avril :)

Hello Avril. My mother and father also talked about the fun they had swimming in the pool above Pontllotyn[especially when they were courting].Unfortunately I dont recall the name of the pool but I believe it was on the mountain road between Pontllotyn and Fochriw.  My grandmother lived in Pontlottyn most of her life and lived for the best part of it in New Road which in those days was the last house before  the pond which must have been about 1/2 mile away

Hello there
Many thanks for your reply.  My cousin in Australia has just had a death certificate of a reletive and it says that he drowned in Penygraig Pond, Pontlottyn.  We wondered if that was the same place.
Many thanks
Avril :) :)

Pen y Graig pond is also know as the titty bottle, the other pond is called the Penbrith.  If you go on google earth it's there for you to see.

Just found out the correct spelling, it's Bryn Brith Pond.
