Inquest Copies
« on: Tuesday 30 June 09 05:31 BST (UK) »
I have, just by pure coincidence, a husband and wife who both had inquests into their deaths.  The first was in August 1897 when Thomas Ward "hanged himself whilst temporarily insane".  The inquest was held 11th August 1897.

The second is his wife, Ann Ward, in August 1934 with the cause of death "Accidental:  Head injuries and concussion sustained through falling downstairs at her residence on date of death".  The inquest was held 7th August 1934.

Can anyone please help me as to where I can obtain copies of these inquests?  They both died in Preston, Lancashire and as I am in Perth, Australia I obviously can't physically visit but if I know where to write or a website to look at, it would be a great help.

Hoping someone can help. :D

Hi ... I can't tell you where you'd get the transcript of the Coroner's Inquest but in addition to that transcruipt, it would be intersting to see what the local papers wrote up about the two deaths- especailly after the second.  You can probably get a copy of the newspaper item by asking the Preston Library.

Someone who know about applying for the Inquest info will comeon and tell you what you need to do, I'm sure.

the copies of local newspapers are kept at the Harris Library at Preston not the LRO.I am sure if you emailed them with all the details they would tell you how much they would charge or somebody may just go to the Harris and do the look up.There are noCoroners Report Books kept as early as the dates you want, apparentley the coroner was under no obligation to deposit them, they were his property not the Crown's.
Sorry I couldn't help

Thank you very much for the info Dotty.  I'll definitely follow up with the Harris Library lead.
