Thanks for replying.

Thomas Watson b. abt 1812, immigrated to the US about 1830-1835. I have not located his ship manifest as yet but believe he may have arrived in New Orleans, Louisana.

He married Sarah Ann Davis b. abt. 1821 in Pennsylvania, on the 30 Jan 1837 in Mississippi (they do have a copy of the marriage record). They lived in the State of Indiana, USA. They had 6 children, all born in Indiana.

William D. b. 1840
George b. 1842
Edwin R. b. 1848
Samuel Elmore b. 1851
Francis "Frank" b. 1853
Alfred b. 1856

Thomas died 2 Oct 1860 in Indiana. Sarah Ann survived at least until at least 1870.

I do not have a copy of Thomas' death record which may have more information nor have I located the actual death of Sarah Ann Davis.

This family is my first cousin's wife's family that he has been researching along with others in the Watson family for some years. I guess they started their research much before the internet. So a lot of shuffling of papers to see what they have or don't have in the way of documentation. I have been looking for his naturalization papers and hoping his family may have some idea where a copy is. If they have one. They are not even sure of the date or place. These folks are well into their 80's so not always easy to remember what they have. That is why I am trying to help.

They did mention that their may be a Thomas Anthony Watson, another possibility, that was also born in Yorkshire 1812.

"Using Ancestry.com on 22 Dec 2008, I did considerable searching for him using data I already knew and can prove, with the same result each time. There were only two Thomas Watson's listed as being born and christened in Yorkshire in 1812, a Thomas Anthony Watson and a Thomas Watson. There are no members of the family, that I have found, with a given or middle name of Anthony.".

I haven't ruled anything out at this point! I haven't found out why they believe the birth county is Yorkshire as yet but have asked and waiting for an answer.

Sorry this posting is so long but I thought I would try to answer as to what I do know at this point.

Thank you for any help. It would be great.

Hi lilbees,

What a pity he emigrated so early - he missed the 1841 census! Without a marriage in England I'm don't know what to suggest.

As you said the ship's manifest would help but the name Thomas Watson is fairly common and there are several years to cover.  If they have the marriage record does it show the name and occupation of Thomas's father?

Maybe someone else can suggest other possibilities.

Thank you once again.

I am now trying to get a copy of the marriage record to see what information is on there. They are still digging through many binders of papers.

Will keep you posted when I have new information.

Barb

Received a copy of the marriage record and it tells nothing about either of the people involved.

Looks like they had to pay $200 US to get married. Wow!

Well, I now have a copy of the naturalization papers for Thomas.

I am attaching a link to them on PhotoBucket for you to see.

His papers say he was born in Yorkshire, England 1812. He immigrated to the US May 1834 and arrived in New York June 1834. He then went to Natchez, Mississippi in 1835 presuming by way of New Orleans. He married Sarah Ann Davis 1837 in Adams county Mississippi. They then went to Indiana were he and his family lived and died.

I have been through the listing of the Yorkshire Parishes through Mirfield on IGI. Will continue to go through the listings looking for him in each Parish. I am checking through the 1813-? as well as the older records i.e., 1750 -1812 just in case the year on the papers is off by a year.

If someone has any other way to check let me know.

Thank you
Barb Yeoman

Hi Barb,

Still looking for you - no obvious candidate yet.

You need to correct you're post - Thomas was b.1812  NOT 1912
