He was a riverside labourer. The institution is another thought. I will see if I can find any either in Sussex, Kent or Canning Town.

Hi, I've just found this post from a couple of years ago.

I've been researching the Dorrington family today, all from Brighton as Alfred's brother John Alfred married Amelia Pilbeam who is slightly sideways in my family.

From another website, I understand that Alfred was killed in Epehy in the Somme on 10 September 1918.

If you want more information, send me a personal message and I'll try to fill you in on the gaps.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ....

Lindsey

Hello Lindsey,
Thanks for that. I do have all the details of Alfreds death and I also have his medals and some other documents. I have also visited his grave. As I cannot account for him and his brother William also mother Charlotte in 1891 and  1901 I was just hoping that maybe they were still in Brighton and went to school there. I can only assume that she was with someone else under his name and maybe her place of birth was somewhere different. I know that Alfred was in London before 1909 and Charlotte was there in 1918. If you have any more information I would really appreciate it.
regards
Pat
