Don't you love it when a person somehow only ages 3 years between census.

There is a death in Dryden, District of Kenora for James Louttit that indicates he was born 6 Aug 1872 and died 7 May 1923. His parents are listed as James Louttit and Jane Pott. The informant was his son, William. It is possible that William gave the wrong name for James' father.
