Yes, I was directed to this site for help and very helpful it has been so far thanks to everyones kindness
and input.

I have been in touch with Adam but he says there are at least 15 gravestones for Waltons and he will send the inscriptions to me in time which is fine as I have been looking for Caroline for a while now.  What I can't understand is why she and husband Isaac are not on the 1891 census.

If I had troubled to look at the last page of that thread I would have seen your message! Sorry about that.

Hi
Quote
but didn't they start giving out the mother's information in 1911 or was that just for births.

Yes - from the September qtr of 1911 - mothers maiden names were shown alongside the birth reg on the GRO index

I have just searched the full GRO index from 1898-March qtr 1901 inclusive and no death is listed for a Caroline Walton in Durham

I have had another look at the 1901 entry and it is a definite M against Isaac for marital status

Hi

On the Durham Registrars site it seems that in 1906 Durham Eastern, Caroline Walton also named Caroline Rippon married John Lowther.

Looked at the full index, the marriage was Easington 10a 858 Q3 1906

Thanks for this information.  It has put an end to a lot of searching. although it still doesn't explain why Caroline and Isaac Walton were not on the 1891 census.

Really appreciate your input.....Irene

Evie,  This seems very possibly 'my' Caroline Walton.  Do you know if  there are any divorce records available?

I am really researching the Walton side of the family and now will have to see if Isaac Walton b.1868
remarried.
