Hunt burial - Birkenhead
« on: Sunday 28 June 09 05:54 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some idea of where to focus my research for my great great grandfather's  burial.

John Hunt died 11 September 1923 aged 73 in Birkenhead, Cheshire, (his first wife Dora Annie had died 28 September 1902 aged 46/47), his wife Amelia L Hunt died March Quarter 1923 (from Free BMD).  Both his wives died in Birkenhead too.

I know Hunt is a very common name, and Birkenhead is huge - but if I could have some idea of where to start to look it would be a great help.

Thanks so much

Hi, Lynne, there are some extremely helpful people on this site who live on the Wirral and may offer to do a look up for you.  The following link is a leaflet from the Wirral Archives detailing the burial register holdings.  It is possible that John was buried at Flaybrick, which opened in 1864.  However as mentioned there are greater experts on this site than me.
Here is the link

Another possibility could be Bebington Cemetery. as this could be closer than Flaybrick.
Birkenhead Library have films for both cemeteries. it would be helpful to anyone  searching for you, if you know what  their religion is , as the films are categorized by religion.

I can look in Bebington cem  first for you to see if they are there
As said a religion if known is helpfull because each one has there own film, and it saves time if known.

Hello Lyn...
checked on Cheshirebmd.org.uk   and    Lancashirebmd.org.uk...can only find ONE possible for a John Hunt marrying a Dora..this being on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk
1873 at Our Lady & St Nicholas & St Anne ,Liverpool, Ref No 2053/LP/58/196..............
John Hunt to Dora Callagan.......
cannot find a birth for Dora Callagan on freebmd.org.uk,,,,,judging by her surname I wouldn`t be surprised if Dora was born over in Ireland...thousands of Irish came to Liverpool......
The church where John and Dora were married is just across the river Mersey to Birkenhead...so It does look very likely this is your John and Dora....I`ll try and find John Hunt b 1849/50/51 on freebmd in Liverpool.......allan
ADDED
from January 1849 to December 1851 (that`s 3 full years) there are only 2 possibles..
John Hunt B dec qtr 1849 in Liverpool Ref No 20 339
John Hunt b Sep Qtr 1850 in Wirral (Birkenhead area) Ref No 19 348....of course there`s no proof either is Your John Hunt....just trying to point you in the right direction..
I`ll try and find out about Johns burial.....allan

Thank you for your replies.

Celia, I am pretty certain they were Methodists, possibly Primitive Methodists.  I was actually in Bebington Cemetery years ago with my grandmother, but this is on my grandfather's side.  Thank you for you offer.

John Hunt was born in 1850 in Birkenhead, his parents were Isaac Hunt and Marcella Cope - so Allan the entry for Wirral would appear to be his.

Thank you so much.

Thanks for that, there are a couple of Frederick Hunt's (cousins and 2nd cousins) but not sure about the dates.

Really appreciate you looking for me.
