Hi Crabby, Before Robert Shellard went to the US, he & younger bro. Henry/Harry went to Canada. They left in 1904 & were in there for the 1906 census, but Robert came back later that year & Henry/Harry came back in 1907.
George Sharach (father) died in 1926. His father was also a George b 1809 & mother was Ann Jefferies. They m. in 1838.
George's parents were Daniel 1778 - Jan 1854 & Judith Burgess 1782 - 1870. Daniel was buried 25 Jan at St Mary's church in Bitton & the officiating minister was Rev Henry N Ellacombe. Judith was buried at the same church on 4th Feb 1870, the same officiating minister.
George Sharach's brother Joseph, was the publican at the Queens Head pub in Willsbridge in 1841 (about a mile from St Mary's church in Bitton). It is still open today although judging by the number of customers, it's struggling to stay open.
I have attached a link with info on the pub & also there is a section on the Shellard family.
It mentions Shellards road which was named after them. It's still there & there is a shop on it that I go to every day!
If you want any photo's of the area, let me know as I live in Bitton.
I am also part of a group of people who are mapping the church yard and transcribing the grave stones. We are 3/4's of the way through it. I will ask if any others in the group have found the Shellard plot yet if you'd like. Also, I have typed up all of the parish burial records from 1572 to 1992, so if you want me to check for any, let me know.
I have more info on other siblings of George & Joseph if you would like that. Finally, the link with the Shellard info also notes that Daniel leased Londonderry Farm in 1833, that's still there as is Clack mill that is mentioned.
Regards
Karen (Bitton, South Gloucestershire)
