Am looking for confirmation of the death of Ann Greaves originally from Bakewell on 11th July 1866 aged 89 at Leavenshulme, Manchester and was possibly buried at St Johns Church, Longsight, Manchester.
Thanks Kirwan

Am looking for information regarding Ann Greaves who I've read took over as landlady of the Rutland Inn, Bakewell.  When and where was she born, married and died. suggestion is that she was born as Ann Summers either in chelmsford or swanwich (derbyshire) 1778, married first a Mr Hudson (?in Matlock) and then a Mr Greaves and died either in Bakwell 1855 or Manchester 1866.

1851 census for Bakewell

Ann Greaves 73  innkeeper widow - no birthplace shown
Alex Balmarris 20  g/son b United States
Charles Hudson 15  g/son b London
Emily Bradley 22  g/dtr b London
plus a lot of servants and some visitors

The address is not the Rutland Arms but I think it was situated in Rutland Place - it's the something Arms which only has 4 letters

Thank you Carole, that's her, looks as if her grandson by her first marriage was there as well. If the information I have is correct then she would not have been on the 1861 census for Bakewell but should have been on the 1861 census for the kirkmanshulme district of Manchester, possibly living alone or with her daughter Ann Bradley. The latter would support the view she did not die in Bakewell in 1855 but lived on till 1866 dying near Manchester

Another unhelpful census entry

1861 for  Kirkmanshulme and Newton Lancs

Stockport Rd - Lodge View

Ann Greaves widow 83 b Swannwick Derbyshire - no occupation shown and she is living alone although she is erroneously shown as a member of the adjoining household who were a brother & sister surname Whittaker

Brilliant!  Thanks so much.  This appears to be the one I'm looking for.  Dates tie up and also the fact that she was born in Swannwick, Derbyshire.

Forgive my ignorance, what does the RG9 Piece 2968 Folio 16 Page 32 stand for?  Is this information available on the internet or do you have to pay for a subscription to a website, if so which?

Again thanks, this was the lady who 'invented' the Bakewell Pudding!

The RG9 etc is the census reference for tracing purposes.

You need an Ancestry or FindMyPast subscription to search all except the 1881 census
